Strengthening Transparency And Accountability In The Education Sector (STAES)

Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Nigeria’s Education Sector (STAES) is a three-year project (2018-2020) supported by the MacArthur Foundation. The Strengthening Accountability and Transparency in the Education Sector (STATNES) project sought to improve accountability in the use of Universal Basic Education (UBE) funds managed by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Kaduna State. The duration of the project was 3 years, which elapsed in September 2020, and the scale-up phase commenced in October 2020. 

PROJECT GOAL: To improve accountability in the use of UBE/public funds managed by Kaduna State.

Focus: Tracking and monitoring of schools, primary health care centers, and water in Chikun, Soba, and Kaura LGAs per year. 

The objectives of the STATNES project are to;

• Strengthen  access to information on governance and administration of UBE funds and projects in Kaduna state; 
• Strengthen involvement of community groups and associations in the monitoring of UBEC funds and achievements in the state; 
• Contribute to the reduction of the risk of leakages and corruption in the administration and use of UBEC funds in Kaduna state; 
• Enhance inclusiveness and responsiveness of service providers.

In order to accomplish these objectives, LANW adopted a partnership approach that promotes constructive engagement of host communities, civil society groups, state actors, media, and service providers towards enhancing access to information and responsiveness in the use of UBE/government funds.
